Church leaders have taken part in a dedication service at the site of a new global education centre in Lanarkshire.
Cardinal Keith O’Brien and Moderator of the Church of Scotland, Reverend David Lunan, joined politicians and local people for the ceremony in Coatbridge.
Work is already underway at the centre, which is being built on the Scottish base of the Xaverian Missionaries.
When opened in May 2009 it will offer conference and workshop facilities for school and community groups.
Father Tom Welsh, director of the Global Education Project, said: “The centre will enable people of all ages and backgrounds to learn more about the big issues affecting all our lives – such as social justice, human rights and sustainable development – and how we can have a say in the decisions made about them.”
