The United Free Church of Scotland has announced that the Moderator Designate of its 2009 General Assembly will be Rev Martin C Keane B.A., B.D.
Mr Keane is minister of St Ninians United Free Church in Stirling. The Assembly will meet in Perth from 10th – 12th June 2009.
He was born in Glasgow in 1964. As a child he attended Shieldhall and Drumoyne UF Church, Glasgow where he came to faith as a teenager. He was educated at Govan High School, Glasgow. In 1986 he graduated with a BA in Business Studies from Glasgow College of Technology.
Sensing a call to the Ministry he undertook a BD course at the University of Glasgow graduating in 1989. He was called in 1989 to be minister of our Lossiemouth congregation in Moray, where he ministered until being called to St Ninians in 2001.
He has served the Church as Moderator of the Aberdeen and the North Presbytery and subsequently as Clerk to the Presbytery of the North and is currently Clerk to the Presbytery of the East. Nationally he has served as Vice convener of the General Assembly Ministry Committee and as Finance Convener. In 2002 he was appointed Principal Clerk to the General Assembly.
Mr Keane is married to Margaret and has two daughters, a son and a grandson. An active supporter of Scripture Union since his school days, he is Chairman of the Scripture Union Stirling Action Group.
