A churchgoing special-needs teacher from Aberdeen who had sex with a 15-year-old pupil confessed about the relationship to members of her congregation, it emerged last night.
Alison Smith was placed on probation and ordered to carry out community service when she was sentenced at Aberdeen Sheriff Court yesterday.
The 29-year-old, who taught at a secondary school in the city, was also placed on the sex offenders register.
A parent of the pupil involved had submitted a written testimony claiming the teenager had not suffered any long-term psychological harm.
Describing events in court yesterday, Smith’s defence agent, John McLeod, said: “It was at the behest of the accused that this came to the attention of the authorities.
“She is a young lady of strong Christian belief. That may have been instrumental in bringing this matter to court.”
