Scotland’s first ‘parish nurse’

Scotland’s first parish nurse has taken up a post in the Steeple Church in Dundee city centre.

Registered nurse Barbara MacFarlane has been appointed to support the healthcare of local people.

Since taking up the role she has been working with people of different beliefs and denominations who live, work or visit the area.

She said: “I’m not just there for members of this church.

“Being a busy shopping area, there aren’t really many people live in the city centre, but there are over 4,000 people who spend the bulk of their day here.

“So I could be involved with working in areas quite a distance from the actual church, wherever the people who need me live.”
