An elderly widow walked five miles to a drop-in centre for her Christmas dinner – because she was all alone.
The pensioner, in her 70s, was looked after by the Salvation Army in Glasgow yesterday after walking from Castlemilk to the Gorbals.
Manager Janet Deans said predicaments like the widow’s showed the importance of the Record’s Be A Good Neighbour campaign.
She said: “The woman’s partner had passed away recently and she has also been rehoused, so she doesn’t know her neighbours. She’s been to the centre before, so we knew her, but we had no idea she was going to walk all the way.”
