The First Lady, Mrs. Janet Museveni, has appealed to women to adhere to their God given responsibility of being custodians of children and society.
Mrs. Museveni, also the MP for Ruhaama County, was on Saturday addressing a four-day international Christian womens conference in Tororo district organised by Ebenezer Gospel Centre.
The conference attracted participants from Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Scotland and Uganda.
The First Lady said women, being custodians of children, were directly responsible for the future of humanity.
“Every other day, cases of defilement, rape and child sacrifice are reported and it hurts. Any woman who is a mother must do something,” she said.
“There is a big problem. If this was happening in the hands of the Lords Resistance Army rebels, we would think it’s because of war. But children are abused in their own families,” she added.
Mrs. Museveni wondered why Uganda, which is well known as a God-fearing nation, had shrines where children were sacrificed.
