Church’s new bishop meets Rothesay congregation

Bishop Brian McGee

Bishop Brian McGee

The new Roman Catholic Bishop of Argyll and the Isles, Brian McGee, visited Bute for the first time in his new role this week.

He celebrated mass at St Andrew’s Church in Rothesay on Wednesday evening before meeting and chatting to parishioners at a social event afterwards.

Mr McGee’s appointment was announced in December, though he only took up the post a little more than a month ago; he was previously vicar-general of the Diocese of Paisley and parish priest of Holy Family Parish in Port Glasgow.

Wednesday’s service was also attended by the island’s two Church of Scotland ministers, Drew Barrie from Rothesay Trinity and Owain Jones of the United Church of Bute.
