Dundee licensing committee decided yesterday to not let religion affect Christmas.
A Christian organisation’s plan to “spread some love” in the city centre in the run-up to December 25 was turned down by councillors after they were told that shopkeepers might not like it.
The Gate Church International was told by the committee that they will be allowed to hold a gathering in the city centre in September, October and November but not in the month when the Christian world celebrates the birth of Jesus.
The organisation had put forward a plan that would have seen it take a weekly spot in the city’s main shopping street, Murraygate, or one of three other areas where they intended carrying out “healing” on passers-by.
