The veteran British broadcaster Melvyn Bragg is to make a major documentary on the King James Bible for the BBC.
The broadcaster, whose ITV series The South Bank Show was recently axed, is to make the series as part of the BBC’s wider anniversary celebrations on TV, radio and online.
A new charity has been formed by parliamentarians, church leaders, arts figures and leading celebrities to promote a series of events to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the publication of the King James Bible.
The BBC said that the King James Bible “is a remarkable work of faith and historical piece of literature that has shaped our language, history and culture. Melvyn Bragg will look at the Bible’s extraordinary legacy and how ultimately, as it spread to the new world and the colonies, it helped to shape the world.”
