Rev Dr William Henney

Retired minister the Rev Dr William Henney has died in the St Andrews Community Hospital, aged 78.

On joining the ministry Dr Henney served a probationary year at St Andrew’s Parish Church, Dundee, before he was inducted in 1957 to Rattray Parish Church, Blairgowrie, where he stayed for seven years.

He moved to St Paul’s Church, Johnstone, in 1965 until 1974, before four years in the Church of Scotland’s department of education at its Edinburgh headquarters.

In 1978 he was inducted to Hope Park Church, St Andrews, where he built a strong ministry before retiring in 1996.

Moderator of the Presbytery of St Andrews in 1988, he was precentor to the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland for 20 years until 1995.
