Rangers are to cash in on the Pope’s visit to Scotland by renting the car parks around Ibrox to the Catholic church.

Worshippers travelling to the Papal visit at Glasgow’s Bellahouston Park by coach will use the parking facilities normally reserved for Gers fans at home games.

The Ibrox deal was agreed following talks involving the Catholic church, the police, Glasgow City Council and the club.

It is believed between 1000 and 2000 coaches from all over Britain will head to Glasgow for the visit of Benedict XVI on September 16.

Areas including Pollok Park, which is more than a mile away, will be used to park coaches for the Bellahouston visit.

More than 200,000 people are expected to see the Pope say Mass in the park which his predecessor, John Paul II, visited in 1982.
