A mother and her two sons who were killed in a crash in the Highlands had been on their way to deliver Christmas presents to a relative, it has emerged.

Michelle Owen, 36, who was a home carer, and her sons Callum, 13, and Ethan, 11, were from Scone, Perthshire.

They died after a collision involving three vehicles on the A95 near Aviemore at about 0920 GMT on Saturday.

The Rev Bruce Thompson, who knew the family, said the boys had been on their way to give gifts to their grandmother.

He led prayers for the family at Scone Old Parish Church on Sunday.

Rev Thompson said: "They were a lovely family. The thoughts and prayers and church support are here for them and their father Ian.

"The two boys were in the boys’ brigade at the church. They were normal boys.

"They were popular, everyone knew them and liked them."

He added: "The mother was a regular helper in the junior section at the church helping out with the boy’s brigade. Our thoughts and prayers are with them all."
