A man appeared in court yesterday accused of attempting to murder a nurse found locked in the boot of her own car.

Justice Ngema, 35, was charged with the attempted murder of Magdeline Makola, who was discovered in her car on Boxing Day – 11 days after she was last seen.

At Linlithgow Sheriff Court, Ngema made no plea or declaration when he appeared in private.

Sheriff Douglas Kinloch ordered him to return to court on January 6.

Ngema, originally from South Africa but living in Airdrie, Lanarkshire, was remanded in custody.

Magdeline’s brother Refilwe, who lives in Sasolburg, South Africa, hopes to fly to Scotland soon to see his sister.

He said: “Our whole family has been through hell with worry and although we thank God that Magdeline is safe, we still have so many unanswered questions.”
